The Sansglu take

The place

Camino Alto is a Mexican-Californian restaurant on Union Street in San Francisco's Cow Hollow, opened by first-time restaurateur Josh Copeland in late 2021 after roughly two decades in finance. Dinner runs a seasonal, market-driven menu; weekend mornings shift to a masa-tortilla taco and waffle brunch, open 9am to 2:30pm Saturday and Sunday. Closed Tuesdays.

The gluten-free setup

Verified Celiac Community Reviews lists Camino Alto's kitchen as reported dedicated gluten-free, based on its own diner-sourced badge. Sansglu has not independently confirmed dedicated status directly with the restaurant, so treat this as a reported classification rather than a Sansglu verification. Camino Alto stocks at least one packaged non-alcoholic beer (Athletic Brewing) that is not gluten-free, so any gluten-free claim here is kitchen-scoped, not "gluten-free bar" or "gluten-free premises." Ask staff to confirm current protocols before ordering.

What to order

The current daytime menu lists an apple masa waffle with whipped cultured coconut and maple syrup, plus a rotating masa-tortilla taco plate (options include grass-fed ground beef, market fish, and Klingeman Farm carnitas). Dinner leans on rockfish with crispy rice and a wood-braised lamb shank. Verified Celiac Community Reviews also references buns and wings on its listing; those did not appear on the restaurant's current published menu at the time of this write-up, so ask at the table if that is what you are after.

The move

Book brunch through Resy or order ahead on Toast; the dining room fills fast on weekend mornings and the kitchen is closed Tuesdays. Ask staff to confirm the Verified Celiac Community Reviews dedicated-GF classification in person, and flag the one gluten-containing non-alcoholic beer if you are ordering a non-alcoholic drink.
