Is IHOP Gluten-Free?
Not really. IHOP labels items gluten-friendly rather than gluten-free, and its own FAQ says it cannot confirm any item meets the FDA definition of gluten-free. Everything cooks on a shared griddle with common fryer oil, and even the omelettes contain wheat, because they are made with buttermilk pancake batter (the same batter is in the burritos, tacos, and crepes). A celiac is left with naturally gluten-free sides like scrambled eggs and fruit, all prepared on shared equipment.

The honest caveat: cross-contact
IHOP says, in its own words, that because it has multiple sources of allergens and gluten-containing ingredients in its shared cooking and prep areas, including common fryer oil, it is unable to guarantee that any menu item can be completely free of allergens or gluten. It labels items gluten-friendly, not gluten-free, and even the omelettes contain wheat from pancake batter. Scrambled eggs skip the batter.
The move
batter on everythingIHOP cooks everything on a shared griddle with common fryer oil and cannot guarantee any item is gluten-free, so a celiac is limited to naturally gluten-free sides like scrambled eggs, fruit, and plain meat, ordered without the pancake batter. Skip the pancakes, omelettes, and anything fried.
The receipt

Based on IHOP's nutrition & allergen FAQ, checked August 2026. Menus and prep change, and a shared kitchen can never guarantee against cross-contact, so confirm with your location before ordering.
