The Best Celiac-Friendly Restaurants in LA (2026)

"Gluten-free" is easy to put on a menu in LA. A kitchen a celiac can evaluate with real confidence is much harder to find. This is the shorter list: Los Angeles restaurants with fully gluten-free menus, documented dedicated setups, or unusually strong celiac signals, with caveats called out when the environment is shared. Below the picks, we are honest about the popular gluten-free-friendly spots that still share a kitchen with wheat, and about the dedicated categories LA simply does not have yet.

Checked by Sansglu

Every restaurant here has a fully gluten-free menu, a documented dedicated setup, or a celiac-specific sourcing signal, and we flag exactly where the line is. We confirm it from each spot's own sourcing and how the kitchen runs, not from user votes, and we re-check because LA closes spots fast. Last checked July 2026. Sit-down restaurants

Thunderbolt, Historic Filipinotown Safety 1001

1. Thunderbolt

1263 W Temple St · Historic Filipinotown
100% gluten-free kitchen · separate fryer

Momma Leah's fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, and mac and cheese, the bar-snack spread a celiac almost never gets to order. The cocktail list is one of the best in the country.

The celiac chef-owner runs the whole food menu gluten-free, and Thunderbolt landed on North America's 50 Best Bars, which is unheard of for a kitchen this safe. It is a real bar, so gluten beer is poured; ask for the gluten-free beer and stay on the food menu. Small and popular, so go early.

Levant Bistro + Bake Shop, Echo Park Safety 1002

2. Levant Bistro + Bake Shop

2112 W Sunset Blvd · Echo Park
100% gluten-free kitchen · separate fryer

Shawarma, mezze, and the flatbreads you almost never get gluten-free, finished with baklava from the bake shop up front. It is one of the rare LA tables where the gluten-free setup is the point, not a side note.

Levant describes the kitchen as 100% gluten-free, soy-free, and organic, with breads and pastries baked into the same gluten-free program. It is one of the strongest sit-down signals on this list.

RICE DTLA, Little Tokyo Safety 903

3. RICE DTLA

333 S Alameda St · Little Tokyo
100% gluten-free kitchen · separate fryer

The lobster dynamite roll, the crunchy miso ramen on house brown-rice noodles, and shrimp tempura, all the Japanese dishes gluten usually takes off the table. Save room for the house-made ice cream.

RICE presents its Japanese menu as dedicated gluten-free, including the soy-sauce-sensitive dishes that usually need extra scrutiny. This Little Tokyo room sits in the space the old Shojin left, and there is a second RICE down in Manhattan Beach.

Honey Hi, Echo Park Safety 984

4. Honey Hi

1620 Sunset Blvd · Echo Park
100% gluten-free kitchen

Buckwheat sourdough toast, the breakfast bowl, and the breakfast sandwich on house gluten-free bread. A clean, seasonal daytime menu.

The kitchen is built on naturally gluten-free flours like buckwheat, and celiac sources list it as fully gluten-free. Their own site is quiet about a formal dedicated label, so if you are highly sensitive it is worth mentioning celiac when you order.

Talo Organic, Venice Safety 855

5. Talo Organic

401 Lincoln Blvd · Venice
100% gluten-free kitchen · separate fryer

A grass-fed beef bowl or the tacos on separate-machinery gluten-free tortillas, all organic. Fast and clean for a Venice lunch.

The founders built Talo for celiac family, so nothing on the menu contains gluten and the kitchen is walled off with its own doors. It sits inside a shared food hall where other stalls cook wheat, and the separation is the owners' word rather than an audit, so ask about cross-contamination if you are highly sensitive.

Sweetfin, Downtown LA Safety 756

6. Sweetfin

735 W 7th St · Downtown LA
100% gluten-free kitchen · separate fryer

Build a poke bowl or take a signature like the ahi tuna, or wrap it as a gluten-free poke burrito. Fast, fresh, and built around a gluten-free menu.

Sweetfin puts it in writing that every item on the menu is 100% gluten-free, including the soy-based sauces that usually carry wheat. There are locations across the city, so it is an easy shortlist default; still mention celiac when ordering if you are highly sensitive.

Gluten-free in Los Angeles, answered

Are there truly celiac-safe restaurants in LA?

Yes, though the list is short and the details matter. Spots like Thunderbolt, Levant, RICE, and Sweetfin publish unusually strong gluten-free setups, while places like 401k and Talo need the caveats in the card. This guide is limited to strong celiac signals, not generic gluten-free-friendly menus.

Where can I get gluten-free sushi or Japanese food in LA?

RICE presents its Japanese kitchen as dedicated gluten-free in Little Tokyo and Manhattan Beach, including sushi, ramen, tempura, and soy sauce. Sweetfin publishes a 100% gluten-free poke menu at locations across the city.

Is there a 100% gluten-free bar in LA?

Yes, and it is one of the best in the country. Thunderbolt in Historic Filipinotown has a celiac chef-owner, a fully gluten-free food menu, and a spot on North America's 50 Best Bars. It is a real bar that pours gluten beer, so ask for the gluten-free option.

What's the difference between celiac-safe and gluten-free friendly in LA?

For this guide, celiac-friendly means a restaurant has a strong published gluten-free setup and clear cross-contact details. Gluten-free friendly usually means a kitchen that also cooks wheat and offers some gluten-free dishes, which leaves more uncertainty.

Is there dedicated gluten-free Mexican, Thai, or pizza in LA?

Not a dedicated sit-down one we can stand behind. The gluten-free versions at those spots share a kitchen or a fryer with wheat, which is not safe enough to call celiac-safe. We would rather leave them off than overstate the setup. If that changes, they go on the list.

Checked, not on the list
  • Sage Plant Based Bistro: A popular vegan spot with a big gluten-free menu, but it is not dedicated: the donut fryer and prep surfaces are shared with gluten, so it is gluten-free-friendly rather than celiac-safe.
  • Villa's Tacos: Beloved blue-corn tortillas get shared around as gluten-free, but it is not a dedicated facility and uses a shared fryer in a small open kitchen, so it is celiac-aware rather than 100% gluten-free.
  • Shojin (Downtown LA): The dedicated gluten-free vegan Japanese spot on Alameda has closed, and RICE now runs that space. The Shojin in Culver City is still open and still dedicated if you want the original.
  • Real Coconut: The Malibu cafe closed in 2022 and the owners say they have no open California locations, though menus still linger on delivery apps. The only Real Coconut kitchen now runs out of a hotel in Tulum.
  • Dedicated gluten-free Mexican, Thai, or pizza: We looked hard and could not find a dedicated sit-down one in LA. The gluten-free options at the usual spots share a wok, a fryer, or an oven with wheat, so we leave the category off rather than overstate it.
