The Sansglu take
The place
Japanese obanzai (home-style cooking) run as a dedicated gluten-free operation. Reservations required, counter seating, traditional flavors without the wheat.
The gluten-free setup
Entire kitchen operates gluten-free from start to finish. No shared equipment, no wheat flour on premises. The whole operation is built around the protocol, not retrofitted into it.
What to order
Come for the obanzai lunch, the spread of small Kyoto-style home-cooked dishes, all gluten-free and sugar-free. It is the kind of everyday Japanese cooking that is usually off-limits because of soy sauce and dashi.
The move
The entire menu is gluten-free, so the many little plates are all safe, which is the opposite of the usual obanzai minefield. It runs lunch only, roughly Thursday through Sunday, so check the days and reserve, since seats are limited. Worth building a Yoyogi-Uehara afternoon around.
